Peace Winds distributes food, shelter materials to survivors in Kesennuma
Three staff members from our partner, Peace Winds, distributed food and materials to earthquake survivors in Kesennuma City on Monday.
Here are some of the items they delivered via helicopter from Tokyo:
•Balloon shelters
•Emergency tents
•Blankets
•Cooking fuel
•Tarpaulins
•Pregelatinized rice
•Bread
The team reports that heavy winds make it difficult to set up the balloon shelters, each of which hold 100 people.

Télécoms Sans frontiers deployed to Japan from its regional base in Bangkok. The TSF team, based at the United Nations OSOCC centre (On-Site Operations Coordination Centre) in Tokyo, is collaborating with the UNDAC teams (United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan on evolving communications needs.

World Vision’s team is currently organizing distributions of emergency relief items such as: water, blankets, and diapers to support approximately 6,000 people in the city of Tome, near Sendai. (Distributions will begin on Thursday 17 March 2011). WV team is also working to set up child friendly spaces in the affected areas, which will allow children to take part in normal childhood activities, while also providing them with psycho-social support.

Because of the scale of the disaster and need for humanitarian aid, Raytheon will make a corporate donation of $500,000 to the American Red Cross in support of the Japan earthquake disaster relief efforts. The corporate gift includes funds from the Raytheon Annual Disaster Relief Fund, a company fund established to respond to major disasters.
In addition to this corporate gift, Raytheon will match all employee donations to the American Red Cross designated to support Japanese relief efforts, up to $500,000.
In total, Raytheon’s support through company and employee donations has the potential to reach $1.5 million
